In the 1920’s - Lucia, the daughter of James Joyce the celebrated writer of Ulysses - was fêted in Paris as a dancer with a starry future ahead. The Paris Times noted: “When she reaches her full capacity for rhythmic dancing, James Joyce may yet be known as his daughter’s father.” Sadly, following a disastrous relationship with Samuel Beckett, Lucia spent most of her life in mental institutions and was diagnosed Schizophrenic by Carl Jung. This project seeks to understand why Lucia stopped dancing and what might she have become had she been brought up in a less dysfunctional family.

Last year I was approached by Gordon Hewitt, who writes and produces articles for the THE MONTHLY - the Belfast based Community Arts Partnership Magazine.

Gordon was interested in talking to me about my career in the theatre and particularly about dance.
